terc - butylalkohol se používá jako rozpouštědlo, denaturační činidlo v ethanolu, odstraňovač barvy a benzín-oktanový posilovač a okysličovadlo.

Je to chemický meziprodukt používaný k produkci methylterc - butyletheru (MTBE) a ethylter - butyletheru (ETBE) reakcí s methanolem a ethanolem, respektive ter - butylem hydroperoxid (TBHP) reakcí s peroxidem vodíku.
